The design for an 18-bed Senior Behavioral Health Unit involved a complete transformation of two existing wings of Lower Bucks Hospital. A complete gutting of existing partitions, and a reworking of the existing mechanical systems was necessary for the Unit, located in what are known as the A and B Wings of the second floor. The Senior Behavioral Health Unit serves the local community with psychiatric services, and at the time of construction is the only geriatric behavioral health unit in Lower Bucks County.
The existing A and B Wings were set up as two double-loaded corridors with large windows at each end. The approximately 10,000 SF renovation connected the wings together, creating a single double-loaded corridor with a centrally located nurse station at the entrance to the unit. Each patient room contains a private bathroom fitted with anti-ligature fixtures. The unit was designed for patient safety first and foremost, with anti-ligature fixtures and equipment throughout all patient-accessed areas.
